Volunteer role

The School for Moral Ambition attracts and mobilizes exceptional talent to address the world’s most pressing challenges. We need our brightest minds to make pandemics history, end factory farming, fight the tobacco industry, safeguard our democracies — and these are just a few examples. Please read our founding principles for a better insight into our mission and guiding values.

about the role

Many of our members burst with ambitious ideas to make the world a better place. Often, they need help to make it a reality — with advisors, co-founders, connections or funding. That's where the Soapbox comes in: a place where you can pitch your plan to improve the world and share how the moral ambition community can help you.

We have a large group of members who are eager to help, and bring in their network, knowledge, or resources to make morally ambitious projects succeed. As Soapbox Coordinator, you bring both together, through online and offline Soapbox events.

Soapbox events are a format where members pitch their world-changing ideas to other community members. The events are currently hosted bi-monthly online, and monthly in our Amsterdam office. As coordinator, you'll help curate speakers, facilitate connections, and ensure these pitch sessions run smoothly.

You will collaborate with Marijn (Community Manager and Soapbox moderator) and Brendan (Campaign Lead) to select the best stories. You have a lot of freedom when you do your job, as long as you check-in with them prior to the Soapbox events. Sign-up for the next one here.

Key responsibilities

  • Tracking and screening all Soapbox pitch submissions.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for prospective and confirmed presenters.
  • Recommending selected pitchers to Marijn (Moderator) and Brendan (Campaign Lead)
  • Coaching Soapbox pitchers by providing  clarity, guidance and confidence-building support
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in the selection process, communication flow, and overall organization of Soapbox events
  • Capturing outcomes and key learnings from each presenter’s experience

What We’re looking for

Essential:

  • Strong alignment with our founding principles
  • Experience with impact assessment: you know how to apply the triple-S framework to assess pitch proposals
  • Keen eye for compelling narratives and storytelling
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid project management and organizational abilities
  • Technical proficiency for managing online events and platforms
  • Commitment for at least one year

Preferred:

  • Personal experience presenting, pitching, or coaching others in public speaking
  • Existing involvement in the Moral Ambition community through previous events, Circles, or your own initiatives

What we offer

  • A chance to spark big change: connecting community members from around the world to accelerate their projects
  • Be part of a small team of ambitious and fun people
  • Invites to SMA team moments
  • Space to grow: we evaluate regularly based on members feedback and ratings
  • If you live in Amsterdam or NYC: the opportunity to work from our office and enjoy a delicious lunch
