Volunteer role

The School for Moral Ambition attracts and mobilizes exceptional talent to address the world’s most pressing challenges. We need our brightest minds to make pandemics history, end factory farming, fight the tobacco industry, safeguard our democracies — and these are just a few examples. Please read our founding principles for a better insight into our mission and guiding values.

about the role

Moral ambition began as an idea on a page. Today, it’s coming to life all over the world through our community members.

Our global community is growing fast — more than 20,000 members from 140+ countries have already joined us, with new people stepping in every day. What unites us is a shared drive: to solve the world’s most pressing problems faster, by helping each person contribute from their unique position of strength.

At the heart of this movement are Moral Ambition Circles — small, committed groups of 6–8 people who come together to find out how they can maximize their impact. So far, over 1500 people participated in the program, making bold commitments about how they’ll contribute most effectively. Along the way, Circles have also sparked collaborations, connections, and friendships.

As we scale the Circle program internationally, we are looking for an experienced advisor to provide external perspective on strategic design decisions. You'll act as a sparring partner — challenging our thinking, offering best-practice insights, and helping us stress-test key program elements before implementation.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategic sparring:
    • Join occasional calls to provide feedback on major program design decisions (e.g., curriculum structure, participant journey mapping, facilitator training approach)
    • Challenge assumptions and offer alternative perspectives on scaling strategies
  • Expert input:
    • Sense-check key frameworks or evaluation approaches against best practices from comparable programs
    • Share relevant case studies, research, or methodologies that could inform our approach
  • Quality check:
    • Review proposed changes to core program elements and flag potential risks or opportunities
    • Provide perspective on whether our learning systems will generate actionable insights as we grow

What We’re looking for

  • Strong alignment with our founding principles
  • Experienced in program management, learning design, or social impact program development
  • Strategic thinker with an eye for structure and participant experience
  • Enjoys sparring, co-creating, and giving thoughtful feedback
  • Familiar with moral ambition, effective altruism, or adjacent impact movements (a plus, not required)

What we offer

  • A chance to shape the Circle Program as we expand our community globally
  • The opportunity to be part of a small, ambitious, and fun team.
  • Invitations to The School's team moments, such as our Founding Principles Book Club with Rutger Bregman and guest experts.
  • If you’re in Amsterdam or NYC: the option to work from our office and enjoy our legendary team lunches.
