about the job
Our Moral Ambition Fellowships offer a transformative journey — one that demands your full commitment as you pivot your career alongside a cohort of ambitious peers.
After a successful edition of the Tobacco Free Future Fellowship last year, we’re proud to relaunch this program in 2025 to support the next wave of bold policy advocates and changemakers.
The program begins with a one-month, full-time training in September 2025. You’ll build deep knowledge of the tobacco epidemic, regulatory tools for public health, and the political landscape in Europe. Training sessions include systems thinking, stakeholder power mapping, legal and policy strategy, and lessons from successful public health campaigns. You’ll also hear from leading tobacco control advocates, policymakers, and campaigners. Preparatory assignments will help bring everyone up to speed before the training begins.
From October 2025 to March 2026, fellows will be embedded full-time in a host organization working on tobacco control. You’ll receive a gross monthly salary of €3.800 and be formally employed under a local contract through The School for Moral Ambition or one of our fiscal partners. All host organizations are based in Brussels. Applicants must be EU/EEA citizens or permanent residents.

about the role
Tobacco remains one of the deadliest industries we have and one of the most preventable drivers of poor health globally. It kills over 8 million people each year — and the tobacco industry continues to obstruct life-saving reforms through lobbying, litigation, and misinformation.
While major wins have been made in global tobacco control, the fight is far from over — especially in the EU, where progress has stalled and new threats, like vape marketing to youth, are growing.
The mass addiction to cigarettes is not some natural phenomenon, but the result of deliberate and concerted efforts by a whole industry. An industry with an annual turnover of almost 900 billion dollars and decades of experience dodging laws and regulations. An industry that will require our best lawyers, lobbyists and activists to take on, because it will never stop trying to hook people on its own.
The Tobacco Free Future Fellowship is designed for exceptional professionals from legal, policy, public health, fundraising, advocacy, and media backgrounds who want to help solve this problem. We are looking for individuals with at least 5 years of work experience, a track record of excellence, and a deep motivation to contribute to tobacco control.
